Plant Cell Model

1. Cell wall is a stiff wall that surrounds the cell membrane and gives its shape. White Styrofoam was used for the cell wall.

2. Endoplasmic Reticulum passageways for materials to go through. Pink and black yarn found next to the nucleus was used for the endoplasmic reticulum.

3. Golgi Body receives materials from endoplasmic reticulum and sends them to other parts of the cell. A red hair band was used for the Golgi body.

4. Cell membrane protects the cell and lets some materials in and blocks others. Orange construction paper was used for the cell membrane.

5. Ribosome produce proteins, float in cytoplasm or are attached to the endoplasmic reticulum. Lentil grains were used for Ribosomes. (BTW Lentils are good source of proteins.)

6. Vacuole is a sac in the cytoplasm that stores water, food, and waste products. A blue water balloon was used as the vacuole.

7. Cytoplasm is a gel-like liquid where different organelles are found in a cell. Snow decoration material was used as the cytoplasm.

8. Nucleus is the “brain” of the cell and directs the cell’s activities. A green tennis ball was used as the nucleus.

9. Chromatin contains the genetic material and instructions for the cell’s functions. A vacuum filter mesh was used for chromatin.

10. Chloroplast are green organelles that capture energy from sunlight and use it to make food for the plant cell. Green marbles were used as chloroplast.

11. Mitochondria is the “powerhouse” of the cell where most of the cell’s energy is produced. Oval shaped rocks where used as mitochondria.
